Spanish

The Lower School Spanish program lays a foundation for language learning that continues throughout our students’ journey at Sidwell Friends and beyond. The program strives to instill a love of learning Spanish (and world languages in general), as well as an appreciation of different cultures. Our Spanish classrooms are alive with music, singing, dancing, rhymes, stories, games, crafts, and other hands-on activities.

Students learn in developmentally appropriate ways, exploring concepts through engaging thematic units rather than rote memorization or drills. Nurturing oral proficiency is the primary goal, although students also begin to develop basic reading and writing skills in Spanish during their years at the Lower School.
